UfiSpace Receives OCP Accepted™ Designation for Industry’s First Distributed Disaggregated Chassis (DDC) Line Card Platforms

Today the Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation announced the acceptance of UfiSpace’s Distributed Disaggregated Chassis (DDC) line card platforms in compliance with the OCP AcceptedTM certification.


 

The OCP Accepted DDC line card platforms include the S9700-53DX and S9700-23D. They are capable of working as standalone white box routers or coupled together with a fabric (the S9705-48D) to create clusters of varying sizes up to 192Tbs, which enables telecoms to have more flexibility and scalability in their network capacity. They’re based on Broadcom’s J2 chipset, which provides 8GB deep buffering with 2000Mpps packet throughput and 4.8Tbs switching capacity. Furthermore, both are equipped with Broadcom’s KBP (or TCAM) to perform up to 16 parallel searches to reach decision speeds of multiple billion decisions per second.

The S9700-53DX is a 100GE white box line card with 40x100GE service ports and 13x400GE fabric ports. The S9700-23D is a 400GE white box line card with 10x400GE service ports and 13x400GE fabric ports. The fabric ports are used to connect the S9700-53DX and S9700-23D to the fabric. These are the building blocks to a highly scalable and flexible chassis routing system.


 

The UfiSpace DDC routing system opens up the traditional chassis routing system by “Distributing” the line and fabric card components into easy to manage, standalone “Disaggregated” white boxes, each equipped with their own hot swappable fans and power supplies for easy maintenance and servicing. No longer will forklifts be needed for installing the chassis because the DDCs are compact; both models are just 2RU in height and can fit onto a standard 19” data center rack. UfiSpace’s DDC is designed for a routing system that is easier to install, manage, and maintain, while meeting all the technical requirements of a carrier-grade core and edge routing system. Additionally, the DDC’s firmware upgrade and power cycle can be managed remotely to give engineers more support when troubleshooting, performing system upgrades or system reboots.

The S9700-53DXs and S9700-23Ds can be connected to the S9705-48D (fabric) via its 400GE fabric ports using standard optical cables. The UfiSpace DDC can be easily scaled up horizontally, and in increments, by adding on additional S9700-53DXs, S9700-23Ds and S9705-48Ds into small (16Tb), medium (96Tb), large clusters (192Tb), or anything in between. The scalability of the routing system will no longer be limited by the physical dimensions of a chassis or the electrical conductance of a backplane. Furthermore, the DDC system capacity can be scaled not only economically and rapidly, but also lowering the total cost of ownership.

Being part of the OCP Telco Project community, UfiSpace naturally designed the DDC to be compatible with any networking operating system (NOS) and has a wide variety of pre-integrated NOS partners available for faster project implementations. With the DDC, telecoms can enable faster 5G network expansion while lowering the TOC. Already telecoms all over the world have shown interest in the DDCs with POCs in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
